Site Safety Supervisor (SSS)
Construction sites shall appoint a Site Safety Supervisor (SSS) as per the requirement of the relevant act/regulations under the jurisdiction of DOSH. SSS must ensure a high level of safety compliance to the regulated standards outlined by the government and company. Personnel qualified to be a SSS must first complete the SSS competency course carried out by the DOSH registered instructor and pass the examination conducted by the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) or DOSH accreditated institution. Under Regulation 25 (1), Factories and Machinery (Building Operations and Works of Engineering Construction) (Safety) Regulations 1986 [BOWEC], the roles of SSS cover;
Inspect and rectifying any unsafe conditions at the construction site;
Correcting any unsafe practices;
Checking of sub-contractors’ work to ensure compliance with the Act and the Regulations made thereunder are complied with, and
Liase with contractor’s safety supervisors appointed under Regulation 26 with respect to safety of work undertaken by sub-contractors.
